Visitors to the Tweed Valley have another characterful self-catering option to choose from following the loving restoration of 22 Biggiesknowe – a delightful cottage-style apartment that sits on a quiet street in the heart of Peebles.
Built at the beginning of the 20th century, originally as a weaver's cottage, the apartment has been completely refurbished by owners Lynda and David Murray, and now comprises a light-filled main bedroom, lounge with dining table overlooking Eddleston Water (the Cuddy), a shower room and shaker-style kitchen (also overlooking the river). With wooden flooring throughout and a wealth of traditional features, it’s a quaint and stylish bolt-hole.
“We purchased the property in June 2014 and carried out extensive renovations including a new kitchen and shower room,” explains Lynda. “The property is best suited for couples but there is a small fold-down bed that would suit a child. A travel cot is also available if required.”
Peebles is renowned for its outdoor activities – not least mountain biking, golf and fishing – as well as being a major arts destination. The town is home to a variety of galleries, including the outstanding Moy Mackay Gallery, while the excellent Eastgate Theatre hosts a year-round programme of top-quality events and performances.
Lynda is clearly pleased with the home from home that’s been created, and is sure that guests will feel the same. “Although only one-bedroomed, the flat feels bright and spacious,” she says. “The property is a minute’s walk from the High Street with all its shops and restaurants, but still feels quiet and private. Meanwhile, the Tweed is also a short walk away and there are beautiful walks right from the doorstep. We love it!"
And of course, once visitors have had their fill of Peebles itself, there’s the rest of the Tweed Valley to explore – not to mention the small matter of Edinburgh being just up the road.
