The Eastgate Theatre is the Tweed Valley’s centre for arts in all shapes and forms including live shows, relays on screen, art house and commercial films, classes and festivals.
With a year-round performance programme which ranges across music, drama, dance, comedy, and family shows, the theatre is an established platform for national and international companies as well as a key venue for emerging talent and local voluntary arts groups.
In any season, visitors could enjoy performances by artists as well known as Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, Craig Hill and John McCusker; and companies such as Mull Theatre, Stellar Quines, David Leddy and Barrowland Ballet. These will be interspersed with live relays of opera and ballet from Covent Garden and National Theatre productions, blockbuster films such as Minions and Frozen, Skyfall and Still Alice, talks, variety shows and the best tribute acts.
Art exhibitions share the busy studio space with a hectic programme of day-time and evening classes for children and adults, taking in dance, craft, visual arts and drama.
And having been the driving force behind Peebles Creative Place 2014 – when Peebles was recognised by Creative Scotland as the most creative town of its size in Scotland – the Eastgate has created a range of lively annual festivals, including Imaginarium, read-a- licious children’s book festival, and the Peebles Outdoor Film Festival.
Meanwhile, the Eastgate’s easily accessible foyer café is a popular meeting place for local residents and visitors alike and is open for sandwiches, light lunches, teas and coffees from 10-5pm Mon-Sat, and from 1pm on film Sundays. The café offers top-quality food and drink from a range of excellent local producers and suppliers, including Forsyths (butchers), Kingsmeadows Catering, Villeneuve Wines, Cuddybridge Apple Juice and Taylors of Biggar (ice cream).
The Eastgate Theatre features in several of our suggested visitor itineraries.
