There is so much to see and do in the Tweed Valley that whatever your age and whatever time of year you will be spoilt for choice. Rich in history and culture there are superb historic houses in the area from the ancient royal stronghold of Traquair near Innerleithen to Bowhill, the magnificent home of the Duke of Buccleuch near Selkirk.

If you want to explore the local towns the Tweeddale Museum in Peebles offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the town and in Innerleithen you can try your hand at printing at Robert Smail's printworks or visit the St Ronan's Wells to discover the secrets of Innerleithen’s history as an important spa.

Housed in an historic spa, the exhibitions tell the story of Innerleithen and St Ronan's Wells, describing their connections with the great Scottish writers, Sir Walter Scott and James Hogg.

Near Peebles

Peebles
The Chambers Institution was established by William Chambers, one of the founders of the famous publishing house in 1859. The museum and gallery present a lively programme of exhibitions in this historic building throughout the year.
Set in a Peeblesshire valley, which would otherwise be barren hillside, Dawyck Botanic Garden has a history of planting that goes back over 300 years and today’s visitors can admire some of the oldest and tallest trees in Europe.
Broughton
To learn more about the life of John Buchan, his family and his works visit the John Buchan Museum to be found on the A701 at the southern end of Broughton Village.
Innerleithen
Traquair House is Scotland's oldest continually inhabited house. Guided tours, 1745 cottage restaurant, gift shop, brewery shop and museum. Maze, woodland walk and craftwork shops.
Selkirk
The Scottish Borders home of the Duke of Buccleuch displays an outstanding art collection with works by Canaletto, Claude, Raeburn, Reynolds, Gainsborough and Ruysdael.
Innerleithen
The small Peeblesshire town of Innerleithen is the home of Robert Smail's Printing Works, a fully operational jobbing letterpress printers, first established in the town in 1866.
