John and Sylvia Matthews welcome all to a magnificent and characterful Edwardian manor house overlooking the picturesque Tweed Valley – home to an intimate restaurant, landscaped gardens and six unique bedrooms. A perfect romantic getaway in the heart of the Scottish Borders. Each of the stylish bedrooms has been designed to provide luxury and comfort while complementing the unique surroundings of the house and its dramatic setting.

We were delighted with the response from guests to the changes we made in our first season at Windlestraw, be it the new approach to the cuisine, the in-room amenities, or the interior upgrade which included two new bathrooms. It's lovely also to hear the encouragement to continue with our plan, which includes renovating the Edwardian greenhouse, installing a kitchen garden and a few other wee surprises.

When it comes to food, we like to keep things simple. We believe in using only the freshest ingredients to create classic dishes, presented with a modern and personal touch. We source most of our ingredients from suppliers based in the Borders to ensure consistency and quality — supporting both the environment as well as the local community.
