The Horseshoe Restaurant with Rooms has been reviewed for its inimitable style, outstanding food and refreshingly unpretentious yet polished service in The Times, The Scotsman and numerous national and international magazines.

For those keen to stay overnight, we offer eight double rooms which have been awarded 4 Gold Stars by The AA Guide and Visit Scotland. The bedrooms have been created from the beautifully-restored Victorian village school house which sits just behind the Horseshoe Restaurant – southern Scotland's most sought-after, boutique fine-dining destination.

Though modest in size, the bedrooms all have en-suite showers, bathrobes, luxurious local handmade organic toiletries, mineral water, tea and coffee making trays with fresh milk, fresh fruit and homemade cake. We consider the first meal of the day to be just as important as dinner, and have received awards for our breakfasts from the AA Guide for the past three years running.

The restaurant, luxuriously furnished with candle-lit antique polished wood tables and striking works of modern art, is open for lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday. With everything cooked fresh, menus change daily. There is also a charming flag-stoned lounge with luxurious sofas, chesterfields and a wood-burning stove. Our restaurant features in all the principal food guides and it is recommended that tables are booked in advance, especially at the weekends. Both our Head Chef, Alistair Craig, and his Sous Chef, Darren Miranda, bring Michelin-starred experience.

You’ll find a local guide written by the General Manager in your bedroom with suggestions for walks and sight-seeing, along with numerous novels and Scottish travel books. Bring a book with you to the lounge and curl up in front of the wood-burning stove and plan your time in the Scottish Borders. One of the team is always on hand throughout the day if you fancy a pot of tea, glass of wine, or a wee dram.

Please note that we are closed Mondays & Tuesdays and don’t take overnight bookings on Sundays. We close for two weeks for staff holidays in July and January. Please check our website for details.
