Homecoming Scottish Borders

Homecoming 2009, commemorated the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns' birth and was celebrated all over Scotland. It is hoped in future years many visitors will be encouraged to “come home” and discover their roots.

Here in the Tweed Valley, the heart of the Borderland, many family names originated here such as Scott, Hay, Burnet, Naesmyth and Shillinglaw while there are also strong associations with the castles of Neidpath, Traquair, Bowhill, Elibank and Horsburgh to many other families.

If you are looking for your ancestors or want to do some further research while you are here we have provided some useful links and contacts to help you.

In addition to several exhibits illustrating life in Tweeddale, the museum holds indexed press cuttings, some archives relating to local businesses and information on local people.
