A historic conservation village
The beautiful rural area around West Linton embraces two hill ranges, the Pentlands and Cloich. Nestling among these uplands are a number of pretty villages, each with their own individual character, offering the perfect base from which to explore the many fascinating places within the West Linton Area, or into Scotland's capital, Edinburgh, which is within easy reach.
Accommodation is available to suit all sizes of groups and tastes, from peaceful self-catering cottages to local family-run hotels and homely bed and breakfasts. The area itself is dotted with charming country pubs and restaurants, each serving quality Scottish fare, in a relaxed atmosphere.
There are local gift shops, bursting with traditional and unusual ideas, a pottery to visit, and a well-known cheese-makers farm.
There is a rich history associated with the area, from the rout of the Covenanters to the sheep and cattle drovers of the Cauldstane Slap. Many ancient artefacts have also been discovered in the area, including a rare Bronze Age cist cemetery.
In the 16th Century West Linton emerged as one of the foremost centres of stone carving in Scotland, and dotted around the village you can find several excellent examples of this trade. St. Andrews Parish Church is famed for its intricate woodcarvings.
