The Eastgate Theatre and Arts Centre

The Eastgate Theatre opened in March 2004 and since then has hosted numerous theatre, music and dance performances at local and national touring levels.

The Eastgate building was formerly a church and has been converted by Richard Murphy Architects. Murphy also designed the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre (which has just celebrated its 5th birthday) and the Stirling Tolbooth.

Highlights so far have included 7:84, Tabula Rasa and Borderline theatre companies as well as Preston Reed, Eduardo Niebla, James Grant and Shooglenifty.

The Eastgate has now installed cinema equipment and a full programme of films will be available shortly.
The theatre has two spaces- a 244 seat auditorium and a separate studio space which is a flexible room used for workshops, rehearsals, meetings and conferences.

Local theatre groups rehearse on regular nights at the Eastgate, and we also hold other events such as art classes, craft workshops, dance classes and AGMs for local organisations.

The Eastgate Theatre is open for sandwiches, teas and coffees, cakes and refreshments from 10am-6pm, Monday to Saturday. Sandwiches are organic and come from Acme Organics, we also serve fair-trade organic coffee from Green Mountain.
